AN ACT to repeal the Tuvalu Pearl Shell Necklaces Act Cap.101.

(Commencement: 19th December 1990)

ENACTED by the Parliament of Tuvalu -

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Tuvalu Pearl Shell Necklaces (Repeal) Act 1990.

Repeal of Cap. 101

2. The Tuvalu Pearl Shell Necklaces Act is hereby repealed.

TUVALU PEARL SHELL NECKLACES (REPEAL) ACT 1990

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

(This memorandum is not part of the Act)

This Act repeals the Tuvalu Pearl Shell Necklaces Act which is seen to be a bar to the chiefly traditions of wearing Pearl Shell Necklaces.

On certain islands of Tuvalu, Pearl Shell Necklaces are made especially for Chiefs. By removing the prohibition against wearing Pearl Shell Necklaces, this tradition may continue.
