RAFFLES (AMENDMENT) ACT 1998

AN ACT TO AMEND THE RAFFLES ACT

I assent,

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Raffles (Amendment) Act 1998.

(2) The Raffles Act (Cap. 169) is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Section 2 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the following definition- ""Article" includes money".

3. Section 6 of the Principal Act is amended by deleting the amount "$50" and substituting therefor the amount "$1,000".

4. Section 7(1) of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the words "with the consent of Cabinet" after the words "Minister of Police".

5. The Schedule to the Principal Act is amended by

(i) deleting the word "five" wherever it appears and substituting therefore the word "ten";

(ii) deleting the words "two and a half and substituting therefor the word "five";

(iii) deleting the amount "$2" and substituting therefore the amount "$20".

Passed by the Legislative Assembly this 5th of October 1998.
