AN ACT TO AMEND THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION ACT 2010

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1 Short Title

(1) This Act may be cited as the Electoral Boundaries Commission (Amendment) Act 2014.

(2) In this Act, the Electoral Boundaries Commission Act 2010 shall be referred to as the Principal Act.

2 Section 17 amended

Section 17 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the following new subsection (5) –

"(5) The Commission shall not, unless it considers it to be in the national interest, make a determination of electoral boundaries within the period of 6 months before the date on which an election shall be held in accordance with clause 77(1) of the Constitution.".
