AN ACT TO AMEND THE CONSTITUTION OF TONGA (CAP 1.01)

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1. Short Title and interpretation

(1) This Act may be cited as the Act of Constitution of Tonga (Amendment) Act 2021.

(2) In this Act, the Constitution of Tonga (Cap 1.01), as amended, shall be referred to as "the Constitution".

2. New clause 31C inserted

The Constitution is amended by inserting immediately after clause 31B the following new clause –

"31C Auditor General
(1) There shall be an Auditor General appointed by the Speaker with the consent of the Legislative Assembly.
(2) The Auditor General shall, unless otherwise provided by law, have complete discretion to exercise his legal powers and duties independently without interference whatsoever from any person or authority.".
