AN ORDINANCE

TO AMEND THE INTERPRETATION AND GENERAL CLAUSES ORDINANCE

[27th December 1974]
Date or Commencement.

Enacted by the Governor of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the British Solomon Islands Protectorate, as follows:-

Short title.

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Interpretation and General Clauses (Amendment) Ordinance 1974.

Amendment of section 3 of Cap. 1.

2. Section 3 of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance (hereinafter referred to as the principal Ordinance) is hereby amended -

(a) by inserting immediately after the definition of "common law" the following new definition:-

No. 3 of 1971.

" "Consolidated Fund" means the Consolidated Fund of the Protectorate established by the Public Finance (Control and Audit) Ordinance 1971;" and

(b) in the definition of "public seal" by deleting "Governor" and substituting "Protectorate".

Amendment of section 4 of Cap. 1.

3. Section 4(1) (b) of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended -

(a) by substituting for the words "the Pacific Ocean" the words "Melanesia, Micronesia or Polynesia"; and

(b) by deleting the semi-colon and words "; and for the avoidance of doubt it is hereby declared that the expression "any island in the Pacific" in this paragraph includes any island in the Protectorate".

Amendment of section 37 of Cap. 1.

4. Section 37 of the principal Ordinance is hereby amended -

(a) in subsections (1) and (2), by inserting immediately before the words "specified public officer" in each case they appear, the words "Minister or"; and

(b) in subsection (3), by substituting for the words "specified public officer" -

(i) where they first appear, the words "Minister or specified public officer"; and

(ii) where they next appear, the words "Minister " or specified public officer, as the case may be,".

Passed by the Legislative Assembly this fifth day of December one thousand nine hundred and seventy-four.
