Cabinet makes the following regulations under the Motor Traffic Act 1937

1 Citation
These regulations may be cited as the Motor Traffic (Fees) Regulations 2012.
2 Commencement
These regulations commence on the day on which the Motor Traffic (Amendment) Act 2012 (No. 14 of 2012) commences.[1]
3 Interpretation
In these regulations:
'commercial motor vehicle' means:
(a) a prime mover (being a motor vehicle built to tow a semi-trailer); or
(b) a motor vehicle (other than a motor cycle) that may be rented from an automotive rental service business; or
(c) a motor vehicle (other than a motor cycle) used primarily for the carriage of goods;
'semi-trailer' means a trailer that has:
(a) one axle group or single axle towards the rear; and
(b) a means of attachment to a prime mover that would result in some of the load being imposed on the prime mover.
4 Fees
(1) The following fees are payable to the Registrar under the Motor Traffic Act 1937:
(a) registration or renewal of registration of motor cycle | $15.00 |
(b) registration or renewal of registration of commercial motor vehicle | $45.00 |
(c) registration or renewal of registration of motor vehicle other than commercial motor vehicle or motor cycle | $22.50 |
(d) licence or renewal of licence to drive motor vehicle | $15.00 |
(e) permit licence to learn to drive a motor vehicle | $7.50 |
(f) motor vehicles trader’s licence for motor vehicles other than motor cycles (or renewal of such licence) | $150.00 |
(g) motor vehicles trader’s licence for motor cycles only (or renewal of such licence) | $75.00 |
(h) transfer of certificate of registration of commercial motor vehicle | $15.00 |
(i) transfer of motor vehicle trader’s licence for unexpired period of licence | $75.00 |
(2) However, if registration or a licence (other than a permit licence) is granted or renewed for less than or more than 12 months, a pro rata adjustment is to be made to the amount of the fee by applying the proportion that the number of months in the licence or renewal period bears to 12 months (with part of a month being regarded as a whole month).
5 Exemption
No fee is payable in respect of registration of a Government owned motor vehicle.
