An Act to amend the Parliamentary Pension Act 2008

Certified 29 October 2014

Enacted by the Parliament of Nauru as follows:

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Pension (Amendment) Act 2014.

2. Commencement

This Act commences on the date on which it is certified by the Speaker.

3. Act amended

The Schedule amends the Parliamentary Pension Act 2008.

SCHEDULE – AMENDMENT OF PARLIAMENTARY PENSION ACT 2008

[1] Amendment of section 8

1.1 Amend section 8 (2)

Omit
'$150'
Substitute
'$300'
New clause will now read:
(2) Subject to sub-section (3) and (4), the rate of the Parliamentary Pension shall be $300 per fortnight.

1.2 Amend section 8 (3)

Omit
'$1.50'
Substitute
'$5.00'
New clause will now read:
'In addition to the basic rate payable under subsection (2), a former Member of Parliament shall be entitled to $5.00 per fortnight for each full year (in excess of 9 years) of service as a Member of Parliament.'

1.3 Amend section 8 (4)

Substitute
'$5.00'
New clause will now read:
'In addition to payment provided for under subsections (2) and (3) hereof, a former Member of Parliament shall be entitled to $5.00 per fortnight for each full year of service as the Deputy Speaker. Speaker, Minister or President.'
