§601. Short title.

This Chapter may be cited as the "Interpretation (Title of the Republic) Act 1984". [P.L. 1984-18, §1.]

§602. Use of the expression "the Republic".

(1) In accordance with a proclamation made by the President on March 12, 1982, that the official name of the nation is "The Republic of the Marshall Islands":

• (a) as appropriate, any reference in any Act or in any subordinate instrument passed or made after the effective date of this Chapter to "the Republic" shall be read as a reference to the Republic of the Marshall Islands; and

• (b) as appropriate, all Acts and subordinate instruments passed or made before the effective date of this Chapter shall be deemed to be amended by substituting for any reference to the Marshall Islands a reference to the Republic.

(2) Subsection (1) of this Section does not apply in relation to references to "the Council of Iroij of the Marshall Islands" or "the Nitijela of the Marshall Islands". [P.L 1984-18, §2.]
