EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

The purpose of this Act is to amend the Schedule to the principal Act in order to give the holders of the posts covered by the Act the salary increase recently awarded to other members of the Public Service

The post of Senior Magistrate has been replaced by the Chief Justice and section 2 of the principal Act is to be amended accordingly.

The role of the Speaker has increased in importance following the Independence Constitution and it is considered that this should be reflected in a corresponding raise in his salary to Level 2 on a par with the Chief Justice and the Attorney-General.

In view of the increased workload on the Public Service Commission, entailing more frequent meetings, the post of the Chairman has become virtually a full-time job and it is considered this should be reflected by placing his salary at Level 3.
