AN ACT TO AMEND THE SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES OF MEMBERS OF THE
MANEABA NI MAUNGATABU AND SALARIES TRIBUNAL ACT (Revised Edition 1996 as amended by No 12 of 1997 and No b of2041) (CAP. 92A)

Commencement:
2002

MADE by the Maneaba ni Maungatabu and assented to by the Beretitenti.

Short Title

1. This Act may be cited as the Salaries and Allowances of Members of the Maneaba ni Maungatabu and Salaries Tribunal (Amendment) Act 2002.

Amendment of section 2

2. Section 2 of the principal Act is amended by inserting at the end of the section this definition –

"spouse" Means a partner in marriage formed under the Marriage Ordinance or recognised by custom.'

SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES OF MEMBERS OF MANEABA NI MAUNGATABU AND SALARIES TRIBUNAL (AMENDMENT) ACT 2002

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

This short Act seeks to incorporate the definition of the word "spouse" in the Act That word is now defined to meats a partner in marriage be it a-husband or wife, and that marriage is performed either under the Marriage Ordinance or as recogrdsed under our custom. So where a marriage is performed under the Marriage ordinance, that marriage must be dissolved first before marriage under custom is
recognised.
