Pacific Order in Council 1907

PACIFIC ISLANDS.


ORDER IN COUNCIL respecting the Celebration of Marriages in the Pacific Islands.
London, July 6, 1907.


At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 6th day of July, 1907.

WHEREAS It is expedient to amend the Order of Her late Majesty, Queen Victoria in Council bearing date the 15th day of March, 1893, and intituled the Pacific Order in Council, 1893.


Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice of His, Majesty's Privy Council, is pleased to- order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:-


I. Article 118* of the Pacific Order in Council, 1893, shall on the commencement of this Order be revoked without prejudice to anything lawfully done thereunder, and the following provisions shall be read in place thereof:-


118.-(1) The High Commissioner, upon receiving a requisition from any minister of religion ordinarily officiating as such, or from the head of the denomination to which such minister belongs stating that he is a British subject, specifying the religious denomination of such minister and his designation and usual place of residence together with the place where he officiates, and desiring that he maybe registered as a minister for celebrating marriages in the Western Pacific, may if he shall think fit register the name of such minister with the foregoing particulars in a register-book to be kept for that purpose. No fee shall be payable in respect of any such registration.


(2) The High Commissioner may at any time, if he shall think fit to do so, remove the name of any minister from the register, and a minister whose name is removed shall not after the notification thereof in the Fiji Government Gazette, have authority to celebrate marriages under the provisions of this Order.

II. This Order may be cited as the Pacific Order in Council, 1907, and shall commence and come into operation on a day to be named by the Governor by notification in the Fiji Government Gazette, and the High Commissioner shall give directions for the publication of this Order at such places and in such manner and for such time or times as he thinks proper for giving due publicity thereto.


III. His Majesty may from time to time revoke, alter, add, to, or amend this Order.
