Birds and Games Protection Act - Open Season for Killing or Taking Game (Pigeon Shooting Season) 2011

BIRDS AND GAMES PROTECTION
(CAP. 170)

NOTICE -- OPEN SEASON FOR KILLING OR TAKING GAME
(PIGEON SHOOTING SEASON)


IN accordance with the Birds and Game Protection Act (Cap. 170) and Cabinet Decision No. 180/2011, approval is hereby given for an Open Season for the Killing or Taking of Game (Pigeon Shooting Season) as from 15th May, 2011 to 13th June, 2011 (both dates inclusive).

As stipulated under section 11 of the Birds and Games Protection Act, the following areas are defined as Reserved Areas within which it is unlawful for any person to shoot, capture, take or destroy any kind of game or take or destroy the nest eggs of any such game.

Reserved Areas in respect of all games: -

(1) The Islands of Makogai and Makodroga;

(2) The area between Nabukalou Creek and Vatuwaqa Creek;

(3) The area from the source of Naivuivuinikawai Creek to Nabiri Creek [Suva Creek];

(4) Koro No.1 to Wainivesi Creek [Tavua Area]; and

(5) The area of land situated about Korobaba comprising an area of about 100.4ha.


And the areas constituted in accordance with the Forestry Decree 1992 as Reserved Forests of Nature Reserves published hereunder, namely;

(1) Suva and Namuka Harbours including Draunibota Island [Quarry Island], Labeko, and Vuo [Admiralty Island].

(2) The area of Taveuni known as Taveuni Forest Reserve containing about 10.965ha.

(3) The area of Taveuni known as Taveuni Forest Reserve containing about 4019.67ha.

(4) The area known as Nadarivatu Nature Reserve containing about 93.07ha.

(5) The area known as Nadarivatu Nature Reserve containing about 6915.05ha.

(6) The area known as Naqaranibuluti Nature Reserve and containing about 279.23ha.

(7) The area known as Yarawa Forest Reserve and containing about 159.5ha.

(8) The area known as Galoa Nature Reserve and containing about 17.2ha.

(9) The area known as Qoya Forest Reserve and containing about 49.52ha.

(10) The area known as Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve and containing about 1083.35ha.

(11) The area known as Korotari Forest Reserve and containing about 2679.10ha.

(12) The area known as Vunimoli Forest Reserve and containing about 18.70ha.

(13) The area known as Lololo Forest Reserve and containing about 6870.45ha.

(14) Mangrove Forest bounded in the West by the Namosi/Rewa Provincial Boundaries and in the east by the main course of the Rewa River.

(15) The Lautoka water catchment area.

(16) The Ba water eatchment area.

(17) The Tavua water catchment area.


Please take note that under section 9, subsections (1), (2) and (3) stipulates that:-

1. every person intending to kill or take game during this opening season shall carry a valid "Licence to kill or Take Game" for 2011 and shall carry the same on his person at all times whilst engaged in killing or taking game and shall provide the same on demand.

2. the maximum number of pigeons that may be taken or killed by any person holding a Licence to kill in any one day during the 2011 open season is five (5).


The licence fee for the killing of game shall be $2.25 per annum.
