Sugar Industry (Amendment) (No 1) Decree 1988

THE REPUBLIC OF FIJI

DECREE NO. 23

SUGAR INDUSTRY (AMENDMENT) (NO. 1) DECREE 1988

A DECREE TO AMEND THE SUGAR INDUSTRY ACT AND TO MAKE PROVISION FOR THE DEFERMENT FOR ONE YEAR OF THE SUGAR CANE GROWERS COUNCIL ELECTION SCHEDULED TO BE HELD BETWEEN 31 MARCH 1988 AND 13 APRIL 1988

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon me by the Appointment of Head of State and Dissolution of Fiji Military Government Decree, I as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Fiji, acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, hereby make the following Decree -

Short title

1. This Decree may he cited as the Sugar Industry (Amendment) (No. 1) Decree 1988.

Section 35 amended

2. Section 35 of the Sugar Industry Act is amended by inserting the following subsection after subsection (3):-

“(4) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (3), the second general election under this Part shall be held within the 14 days next preceding the expiration of the four years commencing on the date on which the first general election was held.”.
