REPUBLIC OF FIJI
PUBLIC SERVICE REDUCTION OF EMOLUMENTS DECREE 2000
(INTERIM CIVILIAN GOVERNMENT DECREE NO. 27)
IN exercise of the powers conferred on the Interim
Civilian Government by section 4 of the Interim Civilian Government (Transfer of
Executive Authority) Decree No. 19 of 2000 and acting on the advice of the
Cabinet, I, Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda, President of the
Republic of Fiji hereby
make this Decree to provide for the reduction of emoluments and allowances of
persons employed in the public
service-
Short title and commencement
1. This Decree
may be cited as the Public Service Reduction of Emoluments Decree 2000 and is
deemed to have commenced on 1st August
2000.
Reduction of salary and allowances
2.- (1) The
salary and wages payable to a person employed in the public service including a
wage earner or person employed on local contract
is reduced by 12.5%.
(2)
Any allowances linked to salaries or wages shall be calculated on the reduced
salary level or rate of wages.
(3) In this section, "public service" has
the meaning given by the State Services Decree No. 6 of 2000.
Exceptions
3. -(1) This
Decree does not apply to-
(a) judges of the High Court and Court of Appeal;
(b) recipients of pensions under the Fiji Servicemen's After-care Fund Act;
(c) expatriate contract officers; and
(d) basic pension including allowance linked to such pension payable by the Government.
