DECREE NO. 37

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT (AMENDMENT) (NO. 2) DECREE 1988

IN exercise of the powers vested in me as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Fiji and after consultation with the Cabinet I do hereby make the following decree-

Short title

1. This Decree may be cited as the Local Government Act (Amendment) (No. 2) Decree 1988.

Interpretation

2. In this Decree -

"Act" means the Local Government Act;

"council" means the council of a city or town;

"Minister" means Minister responsible for Urban Development.

Deferment of sexennial valuation

3. Subsection (1) of section 64 of the Act is amended by substituting a colon for the full stop at the end of that subsection and by inserting the following immediately thereafter -

“Provided that the Minister may by order postpone the making of a general valuation beyond the six year period for such period as he sees fit, when he considers it desirable and expedient so to do.”.
