CONSTITUTION OF THE SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF FIJI (PROMULGATION) DECREE, 1990 (AMENDMENT NO. 1) DECREE, 1991

IN exercise of the powers vested in me as President of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Fiji and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, I hereby make the following Decree:

Short title, etc

1.-(1) This Decree may be cited as the Constitution of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Fiji (Promulgation) Decree, 1990 (Amendment No. 1) Decree, 1991.

(2) In this Decree, the Constitution of the Sovereign Democratic Republic of Fiji (Promulgation) Decree, 1990 is referred to as "the principal Decree".

New section 40 (2)

2. The principal Decree is amended-

(a) by inserting after the number and expression "4" the number and expressions; and

(b) inserting after the full stop at the end of that sub-section, the following:

"(2) Notwithstanding the provision of section 48(5) of the Constitution and section 2(2) of this Decree, any order made under section 48(1) of the Constitution after the date of coming into force of the Constitution, but before the issue of writs of election for the first general election of members of the House of Representatives shall take effect on the date specified for commencement in that Order.".
