AN ACT to amend the National University of Samoa Act 1997.

[28 August 1998]

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement-(1) This Act shall be cited as the National University of Samoa Amendment Act 1998 and shall be read with and deemed part of the National University of Samoa Act 1997 (the principal Act).

(2) This Act shall come into force on the date of its assent by the Head of State.

2. Casual vacancies - Section 12(1) of the principal Act is amended by inserting after the word "by", the words "election, appointment or co-option of a new member in the same manner as in the case of".

3. Meetings of the Council - Section 18(1) of the principal Act is amended by inserting after the word "meet", the words "at such times as it may determine, provided that it shall meet".

4. Personal Liability - Section 24 of the principal Act is amended by deleting the word "of" where it appears for the second time, and replacing it with the words "or by".

5. Powers of the Council - Section 26(2)(e) of the principal Act is amended by inserting the words "subject to section 25(2)".

6. Statutes - Section 28(2)(j) of the principal Act is amended by deleting the words "for those awards" and replacing them with the words "by such an institution".

7. Schedule: Savings and Transitional Provisions – Section 2(2) of the Schedule to the principal Act is amended by inserting after the word "Pro-Chancellor" the words "elected under section 23(3) of the National University of Samoa Act 1984 shall cease to be Pro-Chancellor".
