AN ACT to amend the Judicature Ordinance 1961 to provide for an increase to the salaries of the Chief Justice and other Judges of the Supreme Court.

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Western Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement-(1) This Act may be cited as the Judicature Amendment Act 1997 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Judicature Ordinance 1961 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Ordinance).

(2) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on 1 January 1997.

2. Salaries of Judges - Section 29 of the principal Ordinance shall be amended by-

(a)Omitting the expression "$75,000" from paragraph (a) and substituting "$86,100"

(b) Omitting the expression "$11,502" from paragraph (b) and substituting "$15,000".
