AN ACT to amend the Civil List Act 1964.

[15th June 2001]


BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-


1. Short title and commencement - (1) This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 2001 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1964 ("the principal Act").


(2) This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on the 2nd March 2001.


2. Salary and Allowances of Parliamentary Under-Secretaries - (1) The principal Act is amended by inserting after section 7 a section 7AA as follows:


"7AA. Salary and Allowances of Parliamentary Under-Secretaries - There shall be paid to each Parliamentary Under-Secretary:


(a) A salary at the rate of $30,000 a year;


(b) An allowance at the rate of $7,577 a year to provide for expenses incurred in connection with his or her official duties and in duties in connection with the Legislative Assembly; and


(c) A telephone allowance of $3,600 a year plus a vehicle to be used in accordance with Government policy from time to time on the use of Government and Statutory Corporation vehicles."


(2) Section 7 of the Parliamentary Under-Secretaries Act 1988 is hereby repealed.


3. Salary and Allowances of Deputy Speaker - Section 9 of the principal Act is amended by:


(a) Omitting from paragraph (a) the amount "$29,773" and substituting the amount "$35,000"; and


(b) After paragraph (b) by inserting a paragraph (c) as follows-


"(c) A telephone allowances of $3,600 plus a vehicle to be used in accordance with Government policy from time to time on the use of Government and Statutory Corporation vehicles".


4. Allowances of Members of the Assembly - Section 10(b) of the principal Act is amended by adding after the amount "$5,400" the following words:


"provided that this allowances is not to be paid to those members who hold the positions of Deputy Speaker or Parliamentary Under-Secretary"


5. Committee Allowances - Section 10(c)(ii) of the principal Act is amended by omitting the amounts "$8.50", "$7.00" and "$6.00" and substituting the amounts "$10.00", "$8.50" and "$7.00" respectively.
