AN ACT to amend the Civil List Act 1964.

[7th November 2000]


BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in Parliament assembled as follows:-


1. Short title and commencement-(1) This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 2000 and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1964 ("the principal Act").


(2) This Act shall come into force on the day it is assented to by the Head of State.


2. Allowances for Members of Parliament - Section 10(b) of the principal Act is omitted and substituted with the following:


"(b) An allowance to provide for expenses incurred in connection with his official duties and duties in connection with the Assembly at the rate of $5,400.00 a year."


3. Committee allowances for Members of Parliament - Section 10(c)(ii) of the principal Act is amended by omitting the amounts "$4.00", "$3.75" and "$3.50" and substituting the amounts "$8.50", "$7.00" and "$6.00" respectively.


4. Additional allowances for Members of Parliament - Section 10 of the principal Act is amended by inserting paragraph (d) as follows:


"(d) An additional allowance for each week during which there is a sitting of the Legislative Assembly -


(i) at the rate of $200.00 per week for each member of Parliament who represents an electoral district in Upolu, or is a member residing in Upolu representing the individual voters; or


(ii) at the rate of $302.00 per week for each member of Parliament who represents an electoral district in Savaii, or is a member residing in Savaii representing the individual voters."


5. Salaries of Members of Parliament to be paid fortnightly - Section 13(1) of the principal Act is omitted and substituted with the following:


"13. When salary and allowances payable-(1) The salary and allowances (other than sitting allowances) payable pursuant to the provisions of this Act shall be paid fortnightly as for Government employees."


6. This Act to have retrospective effect - The payments referred to in this Act shall be effective from the 31st day of May 2000.
