BUSINESS LICENCE (AMENDMENT) ACT
NO. 8 OF 1997

An Act to amend the Business Licence Act [CAP. 173].

BE IT ENACTED by the President and Parliament as follows: -

AMENDMENT OF SECTION 13 OF CHAPTER 173

1. The Business Licence Act [CAP. 173] in this Act referred to as the "principal Act" is amended in section 13 -
   
   • (a) in subsection (2) by deleting paragraph (a) and substituting the following paragraph -
     

"(a) where the fee payable does not exceed VT500,000 shall be paid in full on or before the 31^st of January each succeeding year";

(b) in subsection (2) by deleting paragraph (b) and substituting the following paragraph -

"(b) where the fee payable exceeds VT500,000 shall be paid in two equal instalments on or before 31^st January, and on or before 31^st July of each succeeding year."

(c) by adding after subsection (5) the following new subsection (6) –

"(6) Upon application the Minister may, in exceptional circumstances, permit a person to pay the fees prescribed in subsection (2)(a) or (b) to be paid in four equal instalments on or before 31^st January, 30^th April, 31^st July and 31^st October of each succeeding year".

AMENDMENT OF SECTION 18

2. Section 18 of the principal Act is amended in subsection (1) by deleting the words "not exceeding VT500,000" and substituting the words "not exceeding VT500,000 or to imprisonment not exceeding 1 year or to both."
   

COMMENCEMENT

3. This Act shall come into force on the date of assent.
