PENSIONS (AMENDMENT) ACT 1993

AN ACT
TO AMEND THE PENSIONS ACT

[8th September, 1993]

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:-

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Pensions (Amendment) Act 1993.

(2) The Pensions Act (Cap. 8), as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. The Principal Act is amended by deleting section 19 thereof and substituted by the following:

"19. Where immediately prior to -

(a) the enlistment of a person in the Tonga Defence Services he had served in a pensionable office in the civil service; or

(b) the appointment of a person to a pensionable office in the civil service he had served as a regular member of the Tonga Defence Services;

the period of service in the civil service or Tonga Defence Services as the case may be shall be taken into account for pension or gratuity purposes."

Passed by the Legislative Assembly this 8th day of September, 1993.
