PASSPORT (AMENDMENT) ACT 1991

AN ACT TO AMEND THE PASSPORT ACT


I assent,

26th February, 1991

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:


1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Passport (Amendment) Act 1991.


(2) The Passport Act (Chapter 33), as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.


2. Section 10 of the Principal Act is amended by deleting the first sentence and substituting the following:


"Every Tongan may apply for and, subject to this Act, obtain a passport. He may also, if appropriate for purposes of travel, apply for and obtain a certificate of identity from the Minister of Police.".


3. The Principal Act is amended by inserting the following section immediately following section 10:


"10A. Any person declared to have become a naturalized subject of Tonga by virtue of any special legislation shall be entitled to apply for and obtain a passport in such form as His Majesty in Council may prescribe. For the avoidance of doubt any Tongan or purported Tongan passport already held or formerly held by such a person is deemed to have been validly issued for all purposes.".


Passed in the Legislative Assembly this 22nd day of February, 1991.
