INTERPRETATION (AMENDMENT) ACT 2007
Act No. 17 of 2007


AN ACT TO AMEND THE INTERPRETATION ACT (CAP 1)

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:


1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Interpretation (Amendment) Act 2007.
(2) The Interpretation Act, as amended, shall be referred to in this Act as the Principal Act.


2. Section 2(1) of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the following new definition of


"Minister of Finance" immediately after the definition of "Minister"
"Minister of Finance" includes the Treasurer and the Chief Commissioner of Revenue;"


3. The Principal Act is amended by adding a new section 6A immediately after section 6 as follows —


"6A
Notwithstanding the expiry of any period for which a person is authorised to act as a judge of a particular court —


(a) he may attend at that court for the purpose of continuing to deal with, giving judgment in, or dealing with any ancillary matter relating to, any case begun before him while acting as a judge of that court; and


(b) for that purpose, and for the purpose of any proceedings arising out of any such case or matter, he shall be deemed to be a judge of that court."


Passed by the Legislative Assembly this 9th day of August 2007.
