ELECTORAL (AMENDMENT) ACT 2000

AN ACT TO AMEND THE ELECTORAL ACT 1989

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows: -

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2000.

(2) The Electoral Act 1989, as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Section 5 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the following subsection (8):

"(8) For the purposes of this section, the word "election" does not include a by-election."

3. The Principal Act is amended by inserting the following new section after section 5:

"5A. The roll to be used in a by-election in any district, shall be the roll used in the last election for that district."
