EDUCATION (AMENDMENT) ACT 1999

AN ACT AN ACT TO AMEND THE EDUCATION ACT

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Education (Amendment) Act 1999.

(2) The Education Act (Cap. 86) is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. Sections 19 and 25 and the title PART V of the Arrangement of Sections are amended by deleting the word "managers" and replacing it with "Principal Teachers".

3. Section 2 of the Principal Act is amended by deleting the definition of "manager".

4. Sections 19, 21(3), 23(3), 23(4), 25, 26(1), 26(2), 27, 28(2), 29(4)(e), 58(1)(iii) and 58(2) of the Principal Act are amended by deleting the words "Manager" and "Managers" where ever they appear and replacing them with "Principal Teacher" and "Principal Teachers" respectively.

5. Section 18 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting the following new subsection-

"(3) The Minister may delegate to any authorised person his functions under subsection (2)."

6. The heading "PART IX.-SCHOOL MANAGEMENT" is inserted after section 29 of the Principal Act and the remaining PARTS are subsequently renumbered.
