CIVIL AVIATION (AMENDMENT) ACT 2003

AN ACT
TO AMEND THE CIVIL AVIATION ACT 1990

[20th October, 2003.]

BE IT ENACTED by the King and Legislative Assembly of Tonga in the Legislature of the Kingdom as follows:

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Civil Aviation (Amendment) Act, 2003.

(2) The Civil Aviation Act 1990, as amended, is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

2. The Principal Act is amended by inserting the following new section after section 22:

"Armed security officers 22A. (1) Aviation security officers may, with the approval of the Minister, carry arms and ammunition for use in the lawful performance of their duties.

(2) Aviation security officers shall be armed and equipped in accordance with conditions laid down by the Minister.

(3) Any person who ceases to be an aviation security officer, shall forthwith return to the Aviation Security Services all such arms, ammunition, equipment and uniform which have been supplied to him and are the property of Government, in default of which he shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 1 year or both."
