VILLAGE REGULATIONS


SECTION


1. NIUATOPUTAPU

1. Every person who is the holder of a tax allotment, or a permit to occupy and work any tax allotment, shall in the months shown plant the following crops in his allotments:


400 'ufilei August and September

200 manioke October and November

200 hopa and siaine December and January

200 kape February and March

200 kumala April and May

100 'ufi June and July


2. Any person failing to comply with this Regulation will be subject to the penalties provided by section 26 of the Government Act.


2. LEIMATUA, FELETOA AND MATAIKA

1. Every person who is the owner of a pig or pigs in the towns to which these regulations apply shall keep the same in an enclosure or enclosures to be approved by the Director of Agriculture.


2. It shall be the duty of every such person to ensure that pigs kept in this way shall have regular food and water.


3. It shall be lawful for any such person to release any pig or pigs from the enclosure or enclosures provided that they should not allow any pig to stray to neighbouring farm lands or into houses or anywhere except the immediate vicinity of their enclosures.


4. The owner or occupier of any cultivated land or of any enclosed land may shoot or kill any pig found trespassing on such land provided that the owner if known shall be notified and provided also that if the owner of the animal does not claim the same within one hour after it is killed, the carcase may be disposed of.


5. Any person who shall fail to comply with these regulations will be subject to the penalties provided by section 26 of the Government Act.


3. TUANUKU, LONGOMAPU, TEFISI, TAOA AND VAIMALO

1. Every person who is the holder of a tax allotment, or a permit to occupy and work any tax allotment, shall in the months shown plant the following crops in his allotment


*20 manioke or taro plants January to December

*40 kape plants March to August

*40 'ufilei or'ufi plants June to July

15 banana plants October to December

10 pata or mamae plants October to November

25 pineapple plants March

10 hopa plants March

2 breadfruit trees in town allotments.


*Any of these may be substituted by kumala or taro.


2. Any person failing to comply with this Regulation will be subject to the penalties provided by section 26 of the Government Act.


4. HA ALAUFULI, TU'ANEKIVALE, HOLE VA, KOLOA, MANGIA,
HOUMA, HA'AKIO, TA'ANEA

25 manioke plants January to December

40 kape plants March to August

20 banana plants October to November

25 pineapple plants March

50 talo plants August to September

2 breadfruit trees in town allotments.


2. Any person failing to comply with this Regulation will be subject to the penalties provided by section 26 of the Government Act.


5. 'O TEA, FALEVAI, TAUNGA, OVAKA, MATAMAKA, LAPS, NUAPAPU, KAPA, HUNGA, FUA'AMOTU, 'EUAKAFA, 'EUEIKI, MU'OMUA, TOTOKA'UTA AND VAKA'EITU

1. Every person who is the holder of a tax allotment, or a permit to occupy and work any tax allotment, shall in the months shown plant the following crops in his allotment:


*20 manioke or taro plants January to December

*40 kape plants March to August

*40 'ufilei or "ufi plants June to July

10 banana plants October to December

10 pata or mamae plants October to November

25 pineapple plants March

10 hopa plants March

2 breadfruit trees in town allotments.


*Any of these may be substituted by kumala or taro.


2. Any person failing to comply with this Regulation will be subject to the penalties provided by section 26 of the Government Act.


6. NIUAFO'OUAND 'EUA


Made by the District Officer
28th January, 1959
G.S. 95/59


1. All occupiers of allotments are to plant, either in their tax or town allotments, the plants and crops set out in the schedule hereto.


2. The said planting to be carried out during the month of January, 1959 or as soon thereafter as is reasonably practicable.


3. Any person failing to comply with these regulations will render himself liable to the penalties provided by section 26 of the Government Act.


THE SCHEDULE


PLANTING ORDER TO BE ADOPTED BY THE NIUAFO'OU PEOPLE AT 'EUA COMMENCING FROM 1959


A. Useful trees, one planting


1. 5 Breadfruit trees;

2. 2 Mango trees;

3. 2 Chestnut trees;

4. 2 Orange trees;

5. 5 Reeds;


To be inspected on the 15th of September 1959; can be planted either on town or tax allotment.


B. Cash crops-


1. 5 Kava plants each month commencing from January, 1959;

2. 10 plants each of the following pandanus family: Paongo, Tofua, Tutu'ila.


C. Food crops-


50 yam hills; 25 'ufilei hills; 50 kape; 20 plaintains; 50 bananas; to be inspected on the 30th day of November 1959 and every year thereafter; 50 Futuna taros; 50 Tonga taros; 80 manioc hills; 50 kumala hills; to be planted at a distance of 6 feet by 6 feet by 5 feet and to be inspected on the 30th day of November 1959 and every year thereafter.
