Exchange of Notes between France and Tuvalu constituting an Agreement concerning Provisional Maritime Delimitation between the two countries [1985] PITSE 8 (6 August 1985)

EXCHANGE OF NOTES BETWEEN FRANCE AND TUVALU CONSTITUTING AN AGREEMENT CONCERNING PROVISIONAL MARITIME DELIMITATION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES

(Suva, Funafuti, 6 August – 5 November 1985)

ENTRY INTO FORCE : 06 AUGUST 1985

I

N° 82/AL

SUVA, le 6 August 1985

The French Embassy in Suva presents its compliments to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tuvalu and has the honour to refer to the Ministry note in date of 10 June 1985, concerning maritime delimitation between Tuvalu and French Republic.

Taking into account the fact that, as expressed by the above mentioned note, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs "agrees in principle on the desirability of maritime delimitation agreements but regrets that it is not yet in a position to finalise such arrangements", the Embassy has further the honour to propose to the Tuvaluan side that, in the meantime, a simple agreement, acknowledging the principle of the equidistante line as a reference limit, could be decided by the two countries.

The French Embassy avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tuvalu the assurances of its highest consideration.
