Director - Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute (PACLII)

The appointee will be responsible to the Head of the School of Law for: the efficient and effective management and development of the PacLII project as a whole; the supervision of PacLII project staff; day-to-day management of all project budgets; supervision of the timely and accurate reporting of decided cases and statutory provisions in 20 Pacific Island countries; human resources management; liaison with donor agencies, courts and government officials served by the project; applications for funding for particular aspects of the project; oversight of the further development of the project; liaison with other Legal Information Institutes; and such other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time.
Applicants must have:
* an undergraduate degree in law or equivalent professional accreditation
* a postgraduate degree in law or a related discipline, or substantial practical legal experience
* substantial experience in project management
* proven experience in financial management of donor-funded projects
* strong leadership skills
* excellent interpersonal and team management skills
* excellent communication skills, both written and oral
* competence in the management of complex databases and online information systems
* a high level of computer competence
Preference will be given to applicants with:
* extensive experience in law reporting, especially in the online mode
* knowledge of South Pacific and/or PNG legal systems
* established research and publication experience in the area of online information systems

The position is available from 1 January 2008 for a fixed term of three years.
Salary Range: VT4,925,375 to VT5,683,125 per annum
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
