NITIJELA CHAPEL

An Act to establish the Nitijela Chapel for all appointed courtesies and conveniences of Members of the Nitijela, Government Officials and invited Guests; and to authorize the Speaker to appoint a Chaplain of the Nitijela Chapel.

§201. Short Title.


This Chapter may be cited as the Nitijela Chapel Act of 1994. [P.L. 1994-89, §1.]


§202. Interpretations.


As used in this Chapter:


(1) "Members of the Nitijela" means every member of the Nitijela, including the President, Cabinet Ministers, the Speaker and Vice-Speaker, and Senators;


(2) "Government Officials" means high ranking officials of the Government;


(3) "Guests" means honored and distinguished persons who are invited by Members of the Nitijela or Government Officials to utilize the Nitijela Chapel;


(4) "Nitijela Chapel" means that room or recess established or designated by the Speaker in or near the Nitijela Chamber to be used for meditation and prayer or small religious services attended by Members of the Nitijela, Government Officials and invited Guests. [P.L. 1994-89, §2.]


§203. Nitijela Chapel Established.


(1) The Nitijela Chapel is hereby established.


(2) The purposes of the Nitijela Chapel shall be as follows:


(a) to provide a subordinate or private place of worship, and to provide spiritual and moral needs, for Members of the Nitijela, Government Officials and invited Guests; and


(b) to develop and administer such programs and services as necessary to carry out the foregoing and such other purposes as may be determined by the Speaker from time to time.


(3) The Speaker shall appoint, as soon as practicable after the effective date of this Chapter, a person or persons to serve as Chaplain of the Nitijela Chapel. The terms and conditions of such appointment shall be as determined by the Speaker. [P.L. 1994-89, §3.]
