AN ACT TO AMEND THE PUBLIC HOLIDAYS ORDINANCE (CAP. 81)

Commencement: 1 January 1993

MADE by the Maneaba ni Maungatabu and assented to by the Beretitenti.

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 1992 and shall come into operation on 1 January 1993.

Amendment of section 2

2. Section 2 of the Public Holidays Ordinance is amended by repealing the several days mentioned in the Schedule and substituting the following –

SCHEDULE
(Section 2)

1st day of January
Good Friday
The day after Good Friday
Easter Monday
9th day of May
12th day of July
The first Monday in August
10th day of December
Christmas Day
26th day of December

PUBLIC HOLIDAYS (AMENDMENT) ACT 1992

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

1. The main purpose of this Act is to add to the Schedule to the Ordinance several other days which have been recognised and honoured as public holidays in Kiribati.

2. By doing so the current cumbersome practice of the responsible Ministry of advising the public in advance as what days in the next year are public holidays which are to be observed will no longer now be necessary.
