AN ACT TO AMEND THE PRICES ORDINANCE (AMENDMENT)
(CAP. 75)

Commencement 1995

MADE by the Maneaba ni Maungatabu and assented to by the Beretitenti.

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Prices (Amendment) Act 1995.

Amendment of section 3

2. Section 3 of the Prices Ordinance (Amendment) is amended in subsection (l) by inserting the words "wholesale and/or" between the words "by" and "retail" in the second line.

Amendment of section 5

3. Section 5 of the Prices Ordinance is amended as follows -

(a) in paragraph (b) by inserting the "wholesale and/or" between the words "by" and "retail" in the second line of that paragraph;

(b) in paragraph (d) by insert the words "wholesalers and/or" between the words "require" and "retailers" in the first line of that paragraph; and

(c) in paragraph (f) by inserting

(i) the words "wholesalers and/or" between the words "specified", and "retailers" the third line (3rd) line of that paragraph; and

(ii) the words "wholesaler and/or" between the words "upon the" and "retailer".

Amendment of section 7

4. Section 7 of the Prices Ordinance is amended by inserting the words "wholesale and/or" between the words "by" and ''retail" in the second line.

THE PRICES (AMENDMENT) ACT 1995

EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

1. The Short Act seeks to empower the Minister to not only regulate the price for the sale by retail but also by wholesale of commodities in the Schedule. This is achieved by inserting the words "wholesale and/or" in Section 3 (Clause 2).

2. The amendments of Sections 5 and 7 as contained in Clauses 3 and 4 are consequential upon the amendment of Section 3 of the Prices Ordinance.
