AN ACT
TO AMEND THE WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION ACT

ENACTED by the Parliament of Fiji-

Short title and commencement

1.-(1) This Act may be cited as the Workmen's Compensation (Amendment) Act, 1994.

(2) This Act shall enter into force on the day of its publication in the Fiji Republic Gazette.

Interpretation

2. In this Act, the Workmen's Compensation Act is referred to as "the principal Act".

Section 6 amended

3. Section 6 of the principal Act is amended-

(a) in paragraph "(a)" by deleting the words "four thousand five hundred" and "twelve thousand" in line two of the proviso and substituting the words "nine thousand" and "twenty-four thousand" respectively;

(b) in paragraph "(c)" by deleting the words "two hundred and ten" in line 1 and substituting the words "tour hundred and twenty".

Section 7 amended

4. Section 7 of the principal Act is amended in subsection "(1)" by deleting the words "sixteen thousand" and "three thousand" in lines 2 and 3 of the proviso and substituting the words "thirty two thousand" and "six thousand" respectively.

Section 8 amended

5. Section 8 of the principal Act is amended in paragraph "(b)", of subsection "(1)" by deleting the words "twelve thousand" and "one thousand five hundred" in lines 2, 3 and 4 of the proviso and substituting the words "twenty four thousand" and "three thousand" respectively.

Application of Act

6. The increase in the minimum and maximum levels of compensation contained in sections 3, 4 and 5 of this Act shall apply, to accidents taking place on the date of commencement of this Act and thereafter.
