AN ACT

TO AMEND THE RESERVE BANK OF FIJI ACT

ENACTED by the Parliament of Fiji-

Part 1-PRELIMINARY

Short title, etc

1.-(1) This Act may be cited as the Reserve Bank of Fiji (Amendment) Act 1998.

(2) The Reserve Bank of Fiji Act (Cap. 210) is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

Commencement

2. This Act commences on a date appointed by the Minister and published in the Gazette.

Part 2-AMENDMENTS OF PRINCIPAL ACT

Interpretation

3. Section 2 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from subsection (1) the definition of “Governor” and substituting the following definition-

“ ‘Governor” means the Governor of the Reserve Bank appointed pursuant to section 146 of the Constitution;”.

Term of appointment and remuneration of Governor

4. Section 11 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from subsection (1) “by the Minister”.

Duties of the Governor

5. Section 15 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting in subsection (3) “a vacancy arising in the office of Governor or” after “event of”.

Passed by the House of Representatives this Twelfth day of March, in the year of our Lord One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Eight.

Passed by the Senate this Thirty First day of March, in the year of our Lord One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety-Eight.
