An Act to amend the Welfare Act 1989


(22 December 1989


BE IT ENACTED by the Parliament of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:


1. Short Title - This Act may be cited as the Welfare Amendment Act 1989 and shall be read with and deemed part of the Welfare Act 1989 (herein referred to as "the principal Act").


2. Interpretation - Section 44 of the principal Act is amended by-


(a) inserting before the definition of "Director General", the following new definition:


""Blind persons" means a person so blind as to be unable to perform any work for which eyesight is essential;"


(b) Adding after the words "means or labour" in the definition of "Destitute Person" and "Infirm Person", the words - "For the purposes of this Part, the expression "Infirm Person" also includes any blind person."
