An Act to provide that certain enactments of the Parliament of New Zealand shall extend to the Cook Islands as part of the law of the Cook Islands

BE IT ENACTED by the Legislative Assembly of the Cook Islands in Session assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:

  1. Short Title

This Act may be cited as the New Zealand Laws Act 1973.

  1. New Zealand Acts extended to the Cook Islands

The Acts of the Parliament of New Zealand specified in the First Schedule to this Act are hereby declared to extend to the Cook Islands as part of the law of the Cook Islands.

  1. New Zealand regulations, orders, and notices extended to the Cook Islands

The regulations, orders, and notices specified in the Second Schedule to this Act are hereby declared to extend to the Cook Islands as part of the law of the Cook Islands.

  1. Application of section 6A of Narcotics Act 1965 to the Cook Islands

In the application to the Cook Islands of Section 6A of the Narcotics Act 1965 (as inserted by section 4(1) of the Narcotics Amendment Act 1970):

(a) The reference in subsection (2) to subsections (2) and (3) of section 258 of the Crimes Act 1961 shall be read as a reference to subsections (2) and (3) of section 281 of the Crimes Act 1969 of the Cook Islands;
(b) The reference in subsection (3) to the definition of "crime" in section 2 of the Crimes Act 1961 shall be read as a reference to the definition of "offence" in section 2 of the Crimes Act 1969 of the Cook Islands which is punishable under the provisions of that Act:
(c) The reference in subsection (3) to sections 220, 222, 225, 226, 245, 259, 260, and 261 of the Crimes Act 1961 shall be read as a reference to sections 242, 244, 247, 248, 268, 282, 283 and 284 of the Crimes Act 1969 of the Cook Islands.
