An Ordinance made by the [High Commissioner] with advice and consent of the Legislative Council of the Cook Islands for the preservation of native trees by the control of their export.

[The words "High Commissioner" were substituted for the words "Resident Commissioner of Rarotonga" by S. 3(4) of the Cook Islands Amendment Act 1965.]


1. Short Title - This Ordinance may be cited as the Cook s Islands Native Timber Preservation Ordinance 1957.


2. Interpretation - In this Ordinance "native timber" means logs and sawn pieces of dressed and undressed timber of trees indigenous to the Cook Islands.


3. Prohibition on export of native timber without written permission. Penalty - Every person who, without the express permission in writing of the [High Commissioner], exports from the Cook Islands any native timber commits an offence and shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred pounds.


[The words "High Commissioner" were substituted for the words "Resident Commissioner" by S. 3(4) of the Cook Islands Amendment Act 1965.]


4. Notice of intention to export to be given Customs Department - Notice of the intention to export any native timber shall be given by they exporter to the Collector or other proper officer of Customs at least seven days before shipment.


5. Unauthorised export an offence - Any persons lading or concerned in lading native timber, the export of which has not been authorised, commits an offence against this Ordinance.
